Little Big Dream – 2018

Why it matters

Building a local swing dance scene is our Passion, but it’s also really challenging.

After losing one of our main class and party venue because of increase in rents and real-state value, we embarked on a lifelong mission, and decided to buy a venue for our project in Lisbon (called Little Big Apple). It was a risk (and sometimes we feel a bit crazy) but in the end we believe it is worth it in order to create a Home for Swing Dancing, and Swing Music classes, parties, concerts, jam sessions, etc.

So after more than a year of searching we found the perfect spot. We bought it. We got a massive loan to renovated it. It’s now a Blank Canvas in perfect condition to be filled with Ideas, People, Music, Smiles and Dancing.

The Venue

In the 300 m2 area we will have

• Two class/party/concerts rooms
• A music studio, for rehearsals and music classes
• An hangout lounge with bar/reception
• An office
• A WC and a shower/changing room

The venue is located right in the outskirts of Lisbon Center, 140m from the Red Metro Line Station Olaias (14min ride from the Airport) and served with several BUS routes right in front: 756 (from R. Junqueira – map); 720 (from Alto Sto. Amaro – map); 730 (from Picoas); Night 208 (from Cais do Sodré and Oriente – map); 793 (from Roma-Areeiro and Marvila – map)

Your name on the Wall-of-Friends

Your help will be remembered and cherished, your name will be written on a wall of our school, together with everyone that helped us in this phase. We will call it the “Wall-of-friends”.

The Videos

You’ll be able to choose your video(s) from the a list like the one bellow, that we will send you after the crowdfund ends. In the meantime you can also send us an email with topics suggestions 😉

• Connection: Expanding our knowledge of how muscles, tendons and joints work to develop a relaxed but dynamic and powerful connection.
• Rhythm: How we understand rhythm, think about it, and teach it to our students. Since this can be highly challenging we will have different exercises with increasing difficulties, so you can grow at your own pace.
• Slides in your Lindy Hop: exploring basic technique and applications for your slidy feet.
• Music awareness: Exercises and tips to develop your understanding of how music works.
• Swing out: Detailed view on the fundamental building blocks of Swing Out and how we teach it to our students.
• Posture and Balance: Exploring and challenging some of the most fundamentals skills for dancing.
• Tap in your Lindy Hop: Introducing some basic but fun soft tap into your partnered lindy hoppin’.
• Others: More coming. And feel free to suggest other topics in the donations form.

The private classes

In the private you can bring you own topics or allow us to suggest our challenges for you. We will film the “before” and the “after” so you can analyze and compare, and also do a video recap of the main topics we covered during the private.

Little Big Swing Workshop – Official International Inauguration

Dates: 13-14-15 of April, 2018

Classes: Minimum 6 hours of main classes. Saturday and Sunday, finishing around 5 p.m on Sunday.

Two levels: Intermediate-advanced (on spot level split); Advanced (on spot level split)

Parties: Two parties (Friday, Saturday) an a tea-dance (Sunday)

Music: DJ David and organized Jam sessions, of local players and participants. Bring your own favorite instrument for it (or ask for a local one), and come Jam out, old-style!

Addons: Expect some add-on news and surprises

Teachers

Focus

You probably already know how deeply geeky these four people are… and on this workshop they’ll explore this side of their dance/teaching, in a family like environment (small groups).

We will focus on the fundamentals that make up the core-structure of our Lindy Hop and movement/dancing in general.

Expect us to behave less like grandparents – that give you candy, for immediate satisfaction –  and more like parents – that serve you soup, which might taste strange, but eventually will help build you up stronger.
